About the
St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams actually began in Cleveland in 1937. The Rams
have called three major cities home: Cleveland, from 1937-1945;
Los Angeles, from 1946-1994; and St. Louis, from 1995 to the present.
Buzz Wetzel, the team's first general manager, admired the college
team at Fordham University, which was known as the Rams. The team's
first owner, Homer Marshman, also liked the name, so the Cleveland
football team became known by the same. The Rams' uniform colors
were red and black (which were also the colors of Fordham University).
Daniel Reeves and his partner Fred Levy Jr., purchased the Rams
in 1941. To overcome the objections of some club owners over their
plans to move cross-country in 1946, Reeves offered to pay $5,000
over the existing agreement to visiting teams. To gain speedy consent
to play in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Rams agreed to
play a preseason game with the Washington Redskins. The Rams wouldn't
move to their current home in St. Louis until 1995. Rams halfback,
Fred Gehrke sketched a ram's horn in 1947 and suggested to Bob Snyder,
the team's head coach at that time, that the design be added to
the helmets. The very next season, the Rams became the first pro
team with a helmet emblem. For more information on the St. Louis

St. Louis
Rams call Edward Jones Dome home
The St. Louis Rams inaugurated the new, futuristic Edward Jones
Dome in St. Louis on Nov. 13, 1995, with a 27-10 victory over the
Carolina Panthers. The $280 million facility has hosted major conventions,
trade shows, touring entertainment acts, and football games. Edward
Jones Dome was the site of the largest indoor gathering ever held
in the United States: the 1999 Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul
II. More than 104,000 people filled the 2.7 million square-foot
facility to take part in the historic event. The Dome stadium can
seat up to 67,000 for St. Louis Rams' games. Seating levels include:
a private luxury suite level, a private club seat and luxury suite
level, a concourse level (lower bowl) and terrace level (upper bowl).
Edward Jones Dome is located in the heart of downtown St. Louis.
