About the
Seattle Seahawks
On June 4, 1974, the NFL awarded its 28th franchise to Seattle,
and the Seattle Seahawks took to the field for the first time two
years later. As early as 1957, city officials began talking about
the possibility of constructing a domed stadium that would assure
a major league sports franchise for Seattle. The Kingdome, a 64,984-seat
stadium would be the Seattle Seahawks first home. A naming campaign
brought in 20,365 entries and 1,741 different suggestions, but "Seahawks"
was selected and announced on June 17, 1975. About two months later,
and after a 27-day sale, the Seattle Seahawks season ticket drive
was closed with 59,000 tickets sold. In 1988, the Nordstrom family,
owners of the Seahawks, sold majority ownership of the club to Ken
Behring. In February of 1989, Behring named former Los Angeles Raiders
head coach Tom Flores as the team's new president and general manager.
Three years later, Flores was named the Seahawks new head coach.
Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks in 1997, and two years later,
hired Mike Holmgren as the Seattle team's head coach and general
manager. For more information on the Seattle Seahawks, visit the

Seahawks Website.
Seattle Seahawks
call Qwest Field home
The Seattle Seahawks spent nearly two decades at the Kingdome with
the Seattle Mariners (MLB). The Kingdome was demolished to make
room for the new football stadium, so the Seahawks played at Husky
Stadium (home of the Washington Huskies) during construction. On
September 15, 2002, the Seahawks played their inaugural game at
the new Seahawks Stadium. On June 2nd, 2004, the Seattle team announced
a new stadium sponsorship agreement with Qwest Communications International
Inc. Qwest Field holds 67,000 football fans, with an additional
5,000 seats available for special events. A roof covers 70 percent
of the seating area, and fans can enjoy sideline seating just 52
feet from the playing field. The stadium is located just south of
Seattle's historic Pioneer Square against a backdrop of mountains
and Puget Sound. For more information on Qwest Field or the Seattle
Seahawks, visit the official Seattle
Seahawks Website.
