About the Houston Texans
In 1997, Houston Oilers owner Bud Adams is permitted to move his
team to Nashville, Tennessee. That same year, the Houston Texans'
journey to becoming a franchise begins when the NHL bypasses Chuck
Watson and Bob McNair's efforts to bring an expansion hockey club
to Houston forcing the pair to move on to their next project: returning
the NFL to Houston. In 1999, the National Football League owners
voted 29-0 to award the 32nd NFL franchise to Houston for a record
$700 million. The "Apollos" and the "Stallions"
were up for consideration when it came time to name the new Houston
football team. In September of 2000, the NFL's 32nd franchise is
officially christened the Houston Texans before thousands at a downtown
Houston rally. In September of 2002, the Texans become the first
NFL team in 41 years to win their expansion debut, stunning the
Dallas Cowboys 19-10 before 69,604 Texans fans at Reliant Stadium.

Houston Texans call Reliant Stadium home
In 2002, the Houston Texans celebrated the official groundbreaking
of their new stadium. The 69,500-seat state-of-the-art Houston facility
is the world's first retractable-roof football stadium. The Houston
Texans are co-tenants with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Reliant Energy's 32-year agreement is the most comprehensive naming
rights agreement in history. Reliant Park is a partnership between
the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, the Houston
Texans, RodeoHouston and Reliant Energy. The facilities at Reliant
Park include Reliant Stadium, Reliant Astrodome, Reliant Arena,
Reliant Hall and Reliant Center. On February 1, 2004, Reliant Stadium
hosted a memorable Super Bowl XXXVIII between the New England Patriots
and Carolina Panthers. The Patriots won 32-29 on Adam Vinatieri's
41-yard field goal with four seconds remaining. For more information
on Reliant Stadium, visit the official Houston
Texans Website.
