About the
Cincinnati Bengals
In Cincinnati, professional football had a rocky start. In 1937,
a team known as the Cincinnati Bengals was formed as a member of
the American Football League. The Bengals finished with a 2-4-2
record that year, but the AFL folded at the close of the football
season. The Bengals continued as an independent team in 1938, playing
three NFL teams that season. The following year, the Bengals joined
a new AFL, finishing in second place with a 6-2 record. Once again
however, the league folded after the season. In 1940, another new
AFL emerged, and again the Bengals joined. In 1941, as the United
States entered World War II, this AFL closed its doors. This time
however, the Bengals also closed operations. Pro football wouldn't
return to Cincinnati until 26 years later. In 1967, Paul Brown headed
an ownership group with an expansion franchise in the modern-era
American Football League. Brown picked the name Bengals for the
new team and the Bengals began play in the AFL in 1968. The AFL
merged with the NFL just two years later. For more information on
the Cincinnati Bengals, visit the official Cincinnati
Bengals Website.
The Cincinnati
Bengals call Paul Brown Stadium home
Paul Brown was a Pro Football Hall of Famer who founded and coached
the Cleveland Browns from 1946-1962. The Bengals' stadium covers
approximately 22 acres and is 157 feet high. It has 65,535 seats
on three levels, including 7,600 club seats and 114 private suites.
The stadium playing surface is natural turf, which is heated to
extend the growing season and prevent the field from freezing. For
more information on the Bengals' stadium, visit the official Cincinnati
Bengals Website. The official Cincinnati Bengals Fan Club is
the only NFL fan club started by the fans for the fans. Fan club
chapters exist in cities across the United States and in countries
throughout the world. To access information on a Fan Club Chapter
in your area, go to the Fan Club's Web site at www.BengalsFanClub.com.
