About the Chicago Bears
George Halas founded the Decatur Staley's in 1920. The same year,
Halas met with representatives of 12 other clubs in Canton, Ohio,
to form the American Professional Football Association, which later
became the NFL. In 1921, the Decatur Staleys become the Chicago
Staleys. In 1922, they become the Chicago Bears. The first major
signing took place in 1925 when the Bears signed Red Grange to a
contract. Halas then took Grange and the Bears on a coast-to-coast
tour in which the club played 16 games in nine weeks. The first
game of that stretch was played before 36,000 at the team's home
turf, Wrigley Field. Halas' Decatur Staleys are remembered in the
Bears mascot, Staley Da Bear. For more information on the Chicago
Bears, visit the official Chicago
Bears Website.
Chicago Bears call Soldier Field home
Built in honor of World War I Veterans, the Chicago Bears' new stadium
in Lake Forest, Illinois features two 82-foot-by-23 foot video scoreboards,
a three-level Cadillac Club lounge, a Bears' Ring of Honor throughout
the mezzanine level, a Bears Den gallery depicting historical events
from Soldier Field's past and an open-air courtyard inside Gate
0. A "Doughboy" foot soldier greets visitors at the stadium's
south end, inside Gate 0. A Veterans Memorial Water Wall honoring
veterans of all wars is on the stadium's north end. For the first
time since Soldier Field opened in 1924 as the Municipal Grant Park
Stadium, the Colonnades are open to Bears fans. For more information
on Soldier Field, visit the official Chicago
Bears Website.
