About the Carolina Panthers
On July 16, 1987 former football player Jerry Richardson (the future
owner of the Panthers) met with a group of interested parties to discuss
entering the multi-city competition for two NFL expansion franchises.
Support for an NFL expansion team poured in at an astonishing rate.
North Carolina Governor Jim Martin and South Carolina Gov. Carroll
Campbell formed a committee of citizens in both states to lobby for
the first expansion team since 1976. After several rounds of cuts
and a delay in voting because of a labor dispute between the League
and the players, NFL owners unanimously selected Carolina as the 29th
NFL franchise in October of 1993. Carolina Panthers Founder Jerry
Richardson became the second former football player to own an NFL
team after George Halas of the Chicago Bears. The Carolina Panthers
mascot, Sir Purr has been a favorite fixture of football in the Carolinas
since the team's first season in 1995. For more information on the
Carolina Panthers, visit the official Carolina
Panthers Website.
The Carolina
Panthers call Bank of America Stadium home
Located in uptown Charlotte, Bank of America Stadium was especially
designed for football. This 73,367 seat, open-air, natural-grass
stadium boasts training facilities, practice fields and administrative
offices, and serves as the headquarters for the Carolina Panthers.
There are 158 suites with room for additional expansion on two levels
in the stadium. The Panthers' stadium features many unique characteristics,
including enormous arches and towers at the entries dressed in the
team colors of black, silver and Panthers blue. The stadium was
privately funded through the sale of Permanent Seat Licenses, club
seats and luxury boxes. Bordering the Carolina Panthers' stadium
are two Bermuda grass practice fields and one artificial turf field.
The stadium and practice fields cover a total of 33 acres of land.

Carolina Panthers
Website.
