Shreveport, La. -- Independence Bowl officials are pleased to announce that the 29th Independence Bowl will be played on Tuesday, December 28, at 5:30 p.m. central standard time.

"We’re pleased to learn our game date and time,” said Independence Bowl Executive Director Glen Krupica. “We know it will sit well within our community, especially the hospitality community."

It should deliver outstanding television numbers for whoever our next title sponsor is. Traditionally ESPN has given the bowl outstanding placement and they have continued that tradition.”

This year’s game will once again feature a match up between teams from two of the best conferences in college football, the Big 12 and the SEC.

"Our game date is excellent,” stated Jack Lee, 2004 Independence Bowl Chairman. “It gives the Independence Bowl great visibility between the spirit of Christmas and the anticipation of the New Year. It’ll keep the football focus alive as fans prepare themselves to watch the BCS bowls."

The 2004 Independence Bowl will mark the 14th year the Shreveport, Louisiana-based game has appeared on ESPN. Since the 1991 game, the first to be televised by ESPN when SEC powerhouse Georgia defeated future SEC foe Arkansas, 24-15, the Independence Bowl’s overall payout has nearly doubled to its present $2.4 million annual payout
